Navigation in VR

Moving around in a VR application is highly application dependent, but BS Contact Stereo provides a means for applications that don't define their own navigation mechanism. This is targeted at exploring the scene.

This default navigation is done with the thumb stick or with the track pad, depending on whether the controller has a thumb stick (Oculus Touch) or a track pad (Vive controller). When the user touches the thumb stick or track pad, navigation mode is activated. An object appears to visualize that mode and events from that controller are no longer sent to the VR application.

The color indicates the speed range on which it operates and the fuzzy lines indicate the direction of movement and visualize the movement.

Navigation with a thumb stick (Oculus Touch):

  • To get faster, use the index trigger. Press multiple times if it is still too slow.
  • To get slower, use the hand trigger. Press as long as it moves too fast.
  • The direction of movement is influenced both, by the direction of the joy stick and by the rotation of the controller.
To find out what this means, move the joy stick or rotate the controller and watch how the stripes turn.
The direction of the strips is the direction of movement.
  • To get a quick halt, release the thumb stick.

This is sumarized in the following digram. It can be viewed from inside VR when the menu is activated.

Navigation with a track pad (Vive controller):

  • To start navigating press the track pad shortly and then keep touching it.
If you just touch the track pad without pressing it once, navigation mode gets activated but movement does not occur. This is to avoid accidental movements.
  • The direction of movement is influenced both, by the position of the finger on the track pad and by the rotation of the controller.
To find out what this means, move the finger on the track pad or rotate the controller and watch how the stripes turn.
The direction of the strips is the direction of movement.
  • To get faster, press the track pad while you are moving, i. e. while your finger is on the outer area of the track pad.
  • To get slower, press the track pad while your finger is in its center viagra generika online bestellen schweiz. This has the side effect that you must stop moving first.
  • For a quick halt, release the track pad, i. e. stop touching it.

This is sumarized in the following digram. It can be viewed from inside VR when the menu is activated.
